PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Mechanic Helper, will provide essential support to our diesel shop mechanics in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and related components. Your primary responsibilities will involve assisting with various tasks, ensuring the smooth operation of the shop, and contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our maintenance operations.including, but not limited to, chassis components, vehicle refuse bodies and control systems, hydraulic electrical, air brake systems, general engine work, HVAC components, suspension, drive train and steering systems. May perform basic tire work, such as replacement, tire rotation, and tread depth checks.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Mechanic Helper perform maintenance and repairs such as tune-ups and oil changes, checks tire and brakes, replaces spark plugs and engages in other similar tasks with limited supervision.
- Assist mechanics in troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical issues with diesel engines, transmissions, and other components.
- Aid in the repair and maintenance of diesel engines, including performing basic repairs, such as replacing filters, belts, hoses, and other worn-out parts.
- Assist in conducting routine inspections and preventive maintenance tasks on diesel engines, identifying potential problems or areas of concern.
- Collaborate with the mechanics to perform tune-ups, oil changes, and other regular servicing tasks to maintain optimal engine performance.
- Support mechanics in disassembling, cleaning, and reassembling diesel engine parts, ensuring proper functioning and reliability.
- Help with the testing and calibration of diesel engine systems and components to ensure accurate operation.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment, including keeping tools, equipment, and work areas tidy.
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts inventory.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Stay updated on industry advancements, new technologies, and best practices related to diesel engine repair and maintenance
- Performs other duties as assigned.

In addition to performing the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the Supervisor, based on operational needs.
WORKING CONDITIONS

- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) most of the workday.
- Required to exert physical effort in handling objects less 50-75 pounds most of the workday.
- Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals.) often.
- Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements often.
- This position requires full range of bending at the waist and full use of all extremities and back muscles. Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
- Stamina and flexibility to maintain a steady work pace.
WORK HOURS
- Start time varies from 2:30am to 12pm, Monday-Sunday, 40hr week +/-, actual hours can change. Note: Start time represents a general guideline, workdays & hours worked will vary based on operational needs and will be verified during the interview. **START TIME: **
- Must be willing to work weekends, holidays and overtime based on Operational needs.

Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent education
- Reliable transportation.
- Previous experience working in an automotive or diesel repair environment is preferred.
