Bicycle Repair Mechanic

A Bicycle Repair Mechanic in a retail environment is responsible for assembling, maintaining, and repairing bicycles, as well as providing exceptional customer service to enhance the overall shopping experience. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and interpersonal skills to meet both the mechanical and retail aspects of the position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bicycle Assembly and Inspection:

    • Assemble new bicycles and home fitness equipment.
    • Inspect and test bicycles post-assembly to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
  • Maintenance and Repair:

    • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on customer bicycles, including tasks such as brake adjustments, gear tuning, and wheel truing.
    • Diagnose mechanical issues and provide accurate repair estimates.
    • Complete service and work orders efficiently to meet customer expectations.
  • Customer Service:

    • Engage with customers to understand their cycling needs and preferences.
    • Offer expert advice on bicycle selection, accessories, and maintenance practices.
    • Educate customers on proper bike maintenance and safety to ensure a positive and enjoyable biking experience.
  • Inventory and Shop Maintenance:

    • Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
    • Assist in managing inventory levels of parts and supplies, ensuring timely restocking.
    • Keep detailed records of all work performed and manage inventory of parts and supplies. 
  • Team Collaboration:

    • Work collaboratively with sales associates and other team members to provide a seamless customer experience.
    • Participate in training sessions to stay updated on the latest biking trends and technologies.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical Proficiency:

    • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in electric and pedal bicycle assembly, maintenance, and repair.
    • Familiarity with a wide range of tools and equipment used for bicycle repair.
  • Customer Service Skills:

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively assist and educate customers.
    • Ability to explain technical information in an accessible manner.
  • Organizational Skills:

    • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Proficient in maintaining accurate records and managing inventory.
  • Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
    • Dexterity to handle small components and tools effectively.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as a bicycle mechanic in a retail setting is preferred.
  • Certifications from recognized bicycle repair programs are a plus.
