The Assistant Manager supports the Manager in the overall operation of one of our three retail stores.
This role involves assisting in customer service, staff supervision, sales management, inventory control, and ensuring the store maintains a high standard of cleanliness and organization.
The Assistant Manager is responsible for handling customer interactions, overseeing day-to-day tasks, and stepping in for the Manager as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Service:
- Greet customers, assist with product selection, and provide advice on bicycles, accessories, and maintenance.
- Address and resolve customer complaints or concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure customers are satisfied with their shopping experience and that their needs are met.
- Sales Support:
- Assist the Retail Manager in meeting and exceeding sales targets.
- Promote and sell products, accessories, and services to customers.
- Help manage promotional efforts, events, and sales campaigns to drive store traffic and revenue.
- Staff Supervision:
- Supervise and support store staff, providing guidance and ensuring tasks are completed efficiently.
- Help in training new staff on store procedures, product knowledge, and customer service standards.
- Provide feedback to the Manager on staff performance and assist in managing schedules.
- Inventory Control:
- Assist in managing stock levels, ensuring that products are well-organized and properly displayed.
- Monitor inventory, conduct stock counts, and report any discrepancies to the Manager.
- Assist in receiving new inventory shipments and ensure products are priced and tagged appropriately.
- Store Operations:
- Help ensure the store is clean, organized, and well-stocked throughout the day.
- Assist in opening and closing procedures, ensuring security and safety protocols are followed.
- Ensure store displays are visually appealing and follow the store’s merchandising guidelines.
- Bike Maintenance and Repair Support:
- Oversee the bike maintenance and repair processes to ensure quality standards are met.
- Assist customers in understanding the repair process, timelines, and pricing.
- Ensure bikes are in good working condition and repairs are completed in a timely manner.
- Administrative Support:
- Assist with cash register operations, including processing sales, handling returns/exchanges, and managing cash or card transactions.
- Help the Retail Manager with reports on sales performance, inventory levels, and customer feedback.
- Perform routine administrative duties such as filing, organizing, and maintaining store records.
- Health and Safety:
- Ensure the store complies with safety regulations, especially in the repair area.
- Help enforce store policies related to employee conduct, safety, and customer service.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); a degree in Business, Retail Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience:
- Previous experience in retail, preferably in the bicycle industry or outdoor sports.
- Some supervisory or leadership experience is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of bicycle maintenance and repair is preferred.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic proficiency in point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management, and Google Suites (Docs, Sheets, Drive).
- Ability to lift and move bicycles and inventory as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move bikes, boxes, and other heavy items.
- Comfortable being on your feet for extended periods.
Work Environment:
The Assistant Retail Manager works in a retail environment, interacting regularly with customers and staff. The role may require standing for long periods and the occasional lifting of heavy items like bicycles and equipment. The Assistant Manager may need to work evenings, weekends, or holidays, depending on the store’s operating hours.
