Job Title: Preschool Teacher Faculty Reports to: AHS and CEO/Head of School
Job Mission: The mission of Wai’alae Elementary Public Charter School’s early learning faculty is to facilitate student learning in an environment that immerses learners in Wai’alae’s Vision Elements in order for students to: develop new understandings of how the world works and their place in it; create foundations for academic skills; and build personal understanding of their development in Vision Elements within the context of early learning.

Specific Duties:
Facilitate a high quality early learning experience using best practices, based on experience and research
Collect and reflect on student data; adjust and advise instruction accordingly
Communicate effectively, consistently, and frequently with students and their parents about students’ goals and progress, take in feedback and address any questions or concerns directly, positively and in a timely manner
Set clear expectations and monitor student behavior, as well as respond appropriately and consistently to misbehavior
Model and foster a culture of respect and learning
Collaborate effectively to design and facilitate academic units with the grade-level team
Design assessments for learning congruent with instructional and personalized learning goals
Determine students’ pre-academic and social emotional learning objectives and ensure that they’re met
Commit to building a community of child-centered educators by mentoring other educators and making regular contributions to be shared publicly, including curriculum, best practices, research findings, etc.
Reflect on practices, assess strengths and weaknesses, and access professional development to meet students, grade level and school needs and reach their/its goals.

Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years old.
A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or child development with two years' experience working with young children and families OR a bachelor’s degree in another field with 6 courses in Early Childhood Education.
One year of experience supervising teaching staff in Early Childhood Education.
Have a license that shows completion of a state approved teacher education program in early childhood education in the State of Hawaii and meet Hawaii Teacher Standards Board requirements OR currently enrolled in a state-approved teacher education program working towards satisfying the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board licensing requirements
