GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Middle Level Chinese Language and Science Teacher collaborates in the effective operation of a Catholic education program by supporting the goals and spirit of Catholic education in general and the school programs in particular; ensuring an effective instructional program; continuing in professional growth; encouraging student educational growth.

- PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Successfully teach Chinese Language and Science to students in grades 6-8, ensuring comprehension and engagement.
- Preparation of course materials, working from existing curricular frameworks, texts, and assessments
- Promote language and science appreciation. Foster a love for the Chinese (Mandarin) Language and science in all its forms among students.
- Implement hands-on curriculum. Develop and deliver a hands-on, college-preparatory Chinese Language and Science curriculum that is enjoyable and accessible to all students.
- Utilize thorough experience with World Readiness Standards for Learning Languages and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in curriculum planning and instruction.
- Apply knowledge of Mandarin Immersion teaching concepts and philosophies to enhance language learning.
- Differentiate instruction. Implement effective differentiation and customization practices to support teaching students from diverse backgrounds, including those with learning differences.
- Engage in continuous professional development in Chinese Language and Science education to stay current with best practices.
- Contribute to school community. Actively participate in and contribute to the broader school community, engaging in activities and initiatives outside of the classroom that support the overall culture and mission of the school.
- Enjoy working collaboratively with students and colleagues to create a positive and productive learning environment.
- In-school tutoring of students during non-instructional time as needed
- On-campus supervision duties as assigned during the school day
- Faculty Mentor to students as part of our Advisory Program

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s Degree preferred)
- 1-3 years of teaching experience in public, charter, parochial, or independent school (3-5 years preferred)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle, and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Educational Assistants must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods. May need to climb stairs and lift, carry, push and/or pull items up to 50 pounds. Must be able to respond effectively to and lead the class in emergency situations.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is usually performed in an office setting within the time frame established by the Business Office. Employee is occasionally required to attend evening meetings and other special events.
SUPERVISION
Exercises working supervision over other employees, vendors and volunteers, as necessary.
