Job Title: Special Education Elementary Teacher Reports to: Assistant Head of School and Head of School/CEO
Job Mission: The mission of the Special Education Teacher is to develop and implement specially designed instruction and flexible programs for students with disabilities in their least restrictive environment. The Special Education Teacher is responsible for creating intervention supports, accommodations, and modifications for students on their caseload to successfully access the general education curriculum while facilitating growth in Wai'alae's Vision Elements.

Specific Duties:
Specially Designed Instruction
Ensure students receive special education services in their least restrictive environment as indicated in their IEPs
Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities
Plan, organize, and assign activities specific to each student's abilities
Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students
Create situations that help individual students understand their challenges and capitalize on their abilities
Supervise and mentor teacher assistants and individual instructional supports
Model and foster a culture of respect and learning
Assessment and Data:
Assess students' skills to determine needs and develop appropriate teaching plans
Participate with classroom teachers in joint assessment, program planning, and evaluation
Gather, analyze, and share objective student-level data
Design assessments congruent with instructional and personalized learning goals
Meetings and Communication:
Confer with parents, teachers, administrators, and other professionals about students' abilities, limitations, and progress
Conduct and facilitate annual IEP meetings, IEP revisions, and parent meetings as needed
Conduct and facilitate BSP meetings every 4-8 weeks
Communicate effectively, consistently, and frequently with students and parents about goals and progress
Address questions or concerns directly, positively, and in a timely manner
Student Records and Documentation:
Develop and update Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) throughout the school year
Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports, including:
IEPs and Prior Written Notices (PWNs)
Progress Reports (Gen. Ed. & IEPs)
Extended School Year (ESY) documents
Related Services forms and documentation
Reevaluation documents
Behavioral Support Plans (when needed)
Paperwork for RFPs as needed
Assessment data
Professional Growth and Collaboration:
Collaborate effectively with grade-level teams
Reflect on practices, assess strengths and weaknesses
Access professional development to meet student, grade level, and school needs
Commit to building a community of child-centered educators
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree: You must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in education or a related field
Completion of a State-Approved Teacher Education Program (SATEP)
Active Hawai’i Teacher Standards Board (HTSB) license in special education (K-5) OR elementary education (K-5) with a SPED teaching field
