Vacancies: Full-time 3/4 time and 1/2 time

Job Title: Educational Assistant (EA)                                                Reports to: AHS and CEO/Head of School

Job Mission:The EA assists the lead Teacher(s) by performing a variety of instruction-related tasks and other duties as assigned.

Vision for the Position: EAs share responsibility of providing specially designed instruction and assessment to students in the preschool education setting. 

Knowledge of: Standard English language communication skills in order to speak, read and write effectively; and basic arthmetic

Ability to : Understand and follow oral and written instructions; learn and perform a variety of classroom activities and related clerical task; learn classroom management and student care methods and techniques; speak and work effectively with students and others; learn practical aspects of educational program goals, functions, and activities, and learn to use duplicatng and other office and classroom machines and equipment. 
 

Specific Duties: 

Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned:  

  • Curriculum planning and implementation 
    • Prepares specific activities and materials that support learning activities. 
    • Conducts small group lessons.
    • Co-teaches as planned with lead teacher
  • Supervision of Children 
    • Keeps children in view at all times to ensure their physical safety both indoors and outdoors. 
    • Provides appropriate guidance to children including redirection and problem-solving using positive, culturally sensitive guidance techniques. 
    • Follows Behavioral Support Plan (if in place)
  • Recordkeeping 
    • Keeps data on goals and objectives and other data as requested by teacher(s)
    • Assists in writing objective child observations, and maintaining children’s portfolios. 
  • Classroom/Outdoor Maintenance 
    • Prepares the classroom at the beginning of the day and performs clean up and set up for the next day’s activities. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must meet one of the following educational requirements:
    • Forty-eight (48) semester credits, baccalaureate level courses, from an accredited institution of higher education (3 credits must be in Math and 3 in English) –OR-
    • Associate’s in arts (AA) or Science (AS) or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution –OR-
    • Successful completion of the Paraprofessional Assessment test with a minimum score of 459
  • Experience working with children under 5 years of age in a childcare or preschool environment
