The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for minor and routine repairs and maintenance of all HOPE Services Hawaii, Inc. facilities.
CORE FUNCTIONS
Perform routine and preventative maintenance of buildings, plumbing systems, utility infrastructure, fire extinguisher and alarm systems, pest control, landscaping, signage and parking areas.
Coordinate and implement safety testing which includes disaster drills, emergency equipment testing, and recommendation for equipment replacement and emergency procedures.
Maintain documentation on work requests and procurement of facilities supplies, materials and equipment.
Manage warranty, replacement and inventory of all program appliances, permanent fixtures and furnishings.
Perform all duties necessary to achieve County of Hawaii mandated zero waste on site.
Oversee and direct assigned volunteers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent.
Considerable knowledge of safety principles and practices.
Ability to manage time effectively in an effort to complete all assigned tasks.
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals, with or without a calculator.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to plan, organize and delegate work to achieve desired results, with limited disruption to core services.
Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents.
Proficiency in typical computer applications such as Word, Excel and Internet Explorer.
Working knowledge of building operations and support.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with other professionals (including staff, community organizations, and donors), as well as volunteers and consumers (including persons experiencing homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, and incarceration).
Flexibility to work in and implement high levels of detail in a fast-paced environment, utilizing sound judgment and discretion.
Reception to progressive ideas and supervisory directives.
Punctuality and reliable attendance.
A valid Hawaii driver’s license and access to a registered, insured vehicle
Personal vehicle with adequate insurance coverage.
Availability to work as-needed on evenings and weekends.
Physical Demands
Candidates must display and/or demonstrate ability to:
Climb and/or walk up and down stairs and/or walkways.
Sit for periods of up to 30 minutes at a time.
Walk and/or standing for up to 30 minutes at a time.
Lift, carry, pull and/or push items up to 30 pounds at a time and for short distances. Such motions may include reasonable bending, stooping, reaching and twisting.
