Fork Truck Driver

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Fork Truck Driver, you will be responsible for safely operating a Fork Truck while driving through commercial and residential communities following a time sensitive route.  Your role provides safe, reliable, friendly, and consistent service for our customers who rely on our services. Your daily performance will be observed by customers and the public. Your job helps to keep streets, neighborhoods, and communities safe and clean.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • To assist the front load truck/driver in pulling out and returning bins from areas inaccessible to the front load truck and staging those bins for easy collection by the front load truck.
  • Responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously serving customers. Considerable independent judgement is exercised in performing the daily functions of the position.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to maneuver truck into and out of minimum clearance spaces, using mirrors, and yielding to pedestrians.
  • Able to follow safe operating practices, including lock-out/ tag-out procedures to ensure the truck is inoperative when working in the truck body.
  • Interact professionally with customers and/or the public along the route, and compliance with all State and City  
  • Perform complete pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle in accordance with policy to ensure tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls are in proper working order. Report any safety issues on standard reports.
  • Knowledge of the truck and its components, and the basic maintenance requirements for safe operation.
  • Assists in daily operations of the Front Load Refuse operations or other Divisions as directed.
  • Requires maintaining a reliable work schedule.
  • Documents all applicable activity as directed by Refuse Operations Supervisor.
Notifies supervisor of issues requiring management action. Notifies front load truck/driver and documents details to supervisor for issues requiring management action

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS

In addition to performing the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the Supervisor, based on operational needs.

  • Cleans/pick-up loose trash off of truck and/or ground surrounding truck and bin, that spills during dumping process, to maintain clean customer site and safety along roads and highways.
  • Opens bin enclosures and/or gates to access bins and push/pull bins on castors into position for servicing by front-load trucks.
  • Pick-up loose trash from the ground surrounding the truck and bins, that may have been left by the customer and/or may spill during dumping process.
  • Knowledge of the truck and its components, and the basic maintenance requirements for safe operation.
  • Report all damages, service, and excessive wear issues to your supervisor immediately.
  • Participates and cooperates in all scheduled training, briefings, and meetings as required by Operations Supervisor, Safety Manager or GM.
  • Work as a team, while helping and interacting respectfully with each other.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Compliance with safety protocols is of utmost importance for anyone working in a Fork Truck Driver position.
  • This heavy equipment is powerful and potentially dangerous if not operated correctly. It is essential to adhere to all safety regulations, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, and undergo proper training before operating a Fork Truck. Regular maintenance checks and inspections should also be performed to ensure the equipment is in good working condition.
  • By prioritizing safety, workers can prevent accidents and injuries and promote a safe and productive work environment.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of what an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • The noise level in the work environment will range from moderate to extreme.
  • Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, and climbing in & out of vehicle.
  • May require working under minimal supervision.
  • Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures,
  • Exposure to dust and outside working conditions.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to body motion, to include 50 lbs.+.
  • This position requires full range of bending at the waist and full use of all extremities and back muscles.
  • Stamina and flexibility to maintain a steady work pace.

 

WORK HOURS

  • Start time is 3:00 am, 6 days a week, Monday-Sunday, 40hr week +/-, actual hours can change.

Note: Start time represents a general guideline, workdays & hours worked will vary based on operational needs.

  • Must be willing to work weekends, holidays and overtime based on Operational needs.

 

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS

  • Requires verbal and written communication with supervisor, coworker, and others.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Read, write, and comprehend in English.
  • Must be able to communicate using tablets, phones or other devices as required.
  • Must be able to complete work orders, take pictures and update required information as required using provided devices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Ability to read and write English to complete vehicle condition reports, time sheets, delivery tags and reports and daily assignments.
  • Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry, or otherwise, transport up to 50 lbs.
  • Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintaining them over time.
  • Able to use GPS to locate service addresses.
Education/Experience:
  • Knowledge of the island of Oahu
  • Valid Class 3 driver’s license
  • Ability to read and write English, well enough to complete vehicle condition reports and reports in order to complete daily assignments.

 

REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid Hawaii driver's license
  • Clean Driver History Record
  • Must have reliable transportation to work.
  • Requires maintaining a reliable work schedule. Ability to learn Spotter signals and training and demonstrate proper use in the field.

Compensation:
$18.00 to $20.00 / Hourly
