PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Mechanic (Level II) for Heavy-duty/Diesel repair, assist with repair and maintenance work on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks including, but not limited to, chassis components, vehicle refuse bodies and control systems, hydraulic electrical, air brake systems, general engine work, HVAC components, suspension, drive train and steering systems. May perform basic tire work, such as replacement, tire rotation, and tread depth checks. Considerable independent judgement is exercised in performing the daily functions of the position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Helps mechanic perform maintenance and repairs such as tune-ups and oil changes, checks tire and brakes, replaces spark plugs and engages in other similar tasks.
- Assists mechanics with electrical systems such as replacing batteries, starters, and lights, Performs adjustments and repairs to brakes, transmissions, ignition and lighting systems, cooling and heating systems, etc.
- Reads repair orders/requests; diagnoses mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problem(s) and performs repairs as needed.
- Tunes and maintains fleet vehicle engine and equipment and other equipment such as forklifts, scissors lifts, hydraulics, and pumps, etc.
- Test drives vehicles to ensure repairs are completed property.
- Assists with emergency mechanical repairs in shop or in field and troubleshoots malfunctions needing immediate repair.
- Maintains inventory of replacement parts and equipment
- Inspects tools and equipment to ensure they are in working order.
- Updates maintenance and repair logs for vehicles
- Identify the source of the malfunctions using a variety of electronic tools.
- Completes applicable Company training programs.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent. Provides information to co-workers regarding work such as testing and repairing.
- Maintains the neatness, cleanliness, housekeeping, and safe conditions of the Mechanic Shop, and returns tools to proper location.
- Adheres to hazards and safety precautions of the mechanical trade; wears personal protective equipment as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS
In addition to performing the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the Supervisor, based on operational needs.
WORKING CONDITIONS

- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) most of the workday.
- Required to exert physical effort in handling objects less 50-75 pounds most of the workday.
- Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals.) often.
- Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements often.
- This position requires full range of bending at the waist and full use of all extremities and back muscles. Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
- Stamina and flexibility to maintain a steady work pace.
WORK HOURS
- Start time varies from 2:30am to 12pm, Monday-Sunday, 40hr week +/-, actual hours can change.

- Must be willing to work weekends, holidays and overtime based on Operational needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :
Skills/Knowledge:
- Knowledge of vehicle repair, willing to learn.
- Excellent mechanical skills.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to use power and hand tools.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read service and repair manuals.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion.
Education/Experience:
- CDL B preferred
- 2-5 years’ experience bumper to bumper diagnostic and equipment repairs.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is a plus.
