PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Operations Supervisor for Front-end Load is responsible for overseeing the operations of Front-end Load drivers, Fork drivers, and Driver helpers. This role includes supervising assigned staff, managing facilities, coordinating scheduling, ensuring safety compliance, conducting performance evaluations, and overseeing daily operational activities. Additionally, the supervisor may provide support for unassigned segments as needed based on operational demands.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Operational Oversight: Organizes, coordinates, and schedules daily operations, ensuring customer service aligns with company standards. This includes planning, distributing, and monitoring daily route assignments.
- Fleet Maintenance Coordination: Collaborates with the Maintenance team to ensure fleet quality and maintenance targets are met.
- Time Management & Compliance: Reviews and approves employee leave/vacation requests and timesheets, working to minimize overtime and ensure compliance with regulatory standards, such as the 60-hour rule. Conducts annual performance evaluations.
- Issue Documentation & Reporting: Documents and communicates problem fixes to dispatch. Reports daily operational issues, repairs, container swaps, and safety concerns to Safety, HR, and the General Manager.
- Route Optimization: Reviews weekly route demands and recommends re-routing opportunities to the General Manager to enhance productivity, service, and safety.
- Efficiency & Production Meetings: Attends and conducts meetings focused on operational efficiency, collaborating with the General Manager to align operations with budget and safety goals.
- Collaboration with Sales: Works with the Sales & Support Admin to follow up on sales opportunities and manage delivery days.
- Technology Utilization: Ensures proper use of tablets to improve route efficiency and work procedures.
- Safety and Compliance: Collaborates with the Safety/Health Manager to conduct investigations into injuries and incidents, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards (WOA, HIOSH, OSHA, NFPA, DOH, EPA). Ensures consistent discipline and retraining as needed.
- Training & Development: Works with supervisors to develop and implement training programs for new hires, as well as ongoing safety and environmental training.
- Records Management: Maintains accurate and timely records related to personnel, costs, and operations.
- Additional Duties: Performs other duties as required to support efficient operations.
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS
In addition to the performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions.
- Develops knowledge of company systems, such as Encore, through self-learning and staff assistance.
- Follows up on at-risk or recently canceled accounts to ensure customer retention.
- Coordinates and conducts safety meetings and huddles in collaboration with other supervisors and the Safety Manager.
- Assists in safety investigations and risk management strategies, participating in claims processes when required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Regular use of computers, tablets, and other technology tools.
- Physical exertion may be required when handling objects weighing 30-50 lbs. or more.
- Work environment includes exposure to physical risks, such as cuts, burns, or toxic chemicals, and may involve dirt, odors, noise, or weather extremes.
- Office and field work may take place on uneven surfaces, both indoors and outdoors.
WORK HOURS
- Start time is typically 2:00 AM, with shifts ranging from 8 to 10+ hours, including weekends and holidays as required. Start times and work hours will vary based on operational needs.
- Due to the responsibilities of this position, weekend and holiday work hours will be required.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS
Requires effective verbal and written communication with supervisors, peers, and subordinates. Leading and coaching staff is a core aspect of the role.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Skills/Knowledge:
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Physical capability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe.
- Knowledge of refuse operations, including County, State and Federal regulatory standards, and safety protocols.
- Ability to problem-solve and identify preventative solutions.
- Strong coaching, mentoring, and team-building skills.
Education/Experience:
- 3-5 years of cumulative experience in operations management, preferably within waste and recycling operations.
- Experience in FMCSA Training and Compliance.
- Experience in NPDES/SWPPP compliance is a plus.
- Managerial experience in transportation or logistics preferred.
- Valid CDL A preferred.
REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Hawaii driver's license
- Clean Driver History Record
- Must have reliable transportation to work.
- Requires maintaining a reliable work schedule.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY
Adherence to all safety regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and proper training is mandatory. Regular maintenance and inspections of equipment are essential to ensure safe operations.
